What does
"CONSERVATIVE" mean?
Hundreds of people visit Groton
Heights Baptist Church every year. Some were invited by a family member or a friend. Some walked in on their own, possibly looking
for a church home. One person said that, "They were
looking for the presence of God." One of the first questions we are
often asked by those new to our church is, "What is a conservative Baptist church and
what does the 'conservative' mean?"
DOCTRINALLY...
...it represents the centrality of our position. While labels are
difficult to define, the evangelical church would acknowledge that there
are extremes. To the right, one would find churches described as legalistic.
To the left, there would be liberal churches. We believe that
Groton Heights enjoys a doctrinal balance. This does not mean we
are non-principled, nor that we do not have firm positions on the
cardinal doctrines of the Christian faith. We do! But it means that we
are neither separatist, nor all-inclusive. We believe this
is the biblical position that Jesus lived in the Spirit.
FUNCTIONALLY...
...its a SPIRIT of worship and family. We would define the
spirit of our church as blended, meaning we embrace all ages,
cultures, and ethnic backgrounds. In this sense, we are indeed
all-inclusive, excluding no one; for we are all equal in God's sight when
we are born-again into the family of God.
Our worship is also a blend of contemporary
and traditional styles, seeking to be sensitive to both the Spirit,
and the needs of our flock. Hymns, choruses, children and adult choirs,
and a variety of special ministries are offered.
All of these assist our people in
growth to maturity in Christ.

OUR
ASSOCIATION...
...Groton Heights is affiliated with the Conservative Baptist
Association of America and its sister ministry organizations CBInternational
(foreign missions) and Mission to the Americas ( mission to the unreached of America).
CBA is a worldwide fellowship
of churches with kindred doctrinal faith and practice. We are autonomous,
but not independent in spirit. Rather we enter into oneness and
fellowship with churches whose ministry purposes and goals are the same
as ours.
OUR FORM...
...of church government is congregational, and the appointment of God-called
leadership headed by a pastoral staff and deacons. |
